SPECIAL CAUTIONS FOR THE USE OF CORTICOSTEROIDS NASAL SPRAYS
The first caution is really a point of common sense: if these sprays are used when your nose is significantly congested, they will not pass far enough into your nose to help. Therefore, before using, be sure your nose is open before spraying them in. If necessary, use nasal decongestant sprays before using the nasal corticosteroid sprays for the first few days of corticosteroid spray use.
Next, the nozzle of the spray should never be pointed toward your nasal septum when you spray your nose. This can injure your septum, as discussed above. It should be directed straight back into your nose, following the direction of air flow through the nose.
If you develop thrush (a yeast infection in the mouth and throat), while using nasal corticosteroid sprays, stop using the spray and treat the thrush. The likelihood of your developing this can be reduced if you simply gargle with water after using the spray or metered inhaler.
If you are using nasal corticosteroid sprays while you have a bacterial infection of your nose, ears, or sinuses, be sure that you also take an antibiotic.
